The question that decides it

Do you need your data on more than one device?

If no, an offline app is strictly better on privacy and there's no reason to accept an account. If yes, sync requires a server, a server requires identifying which data is yours, and that requires an account. There's no clever way around this — anyone promising both is doing one of them badly.

So the real question isn't "account or no account." It's whether an app that *does* hold your data behaves well with it.

Not a privacy question, but the one that decides whether any of this was worth the effort. A tracker built on user-submitted entries inherits every mistake anyone ever typed — which is a bigger problem than most people realize.
