Food diary with less manual entry
A food diary records what you eat and drink, including quantities and times. It can help you review habits, track calories and nutrients, or prepare for a discussion with a dietitian. In Calorie.one, log food with a description, a meal photo, a nutrition label or a search of USDA food records. Each meal shows where its values came from.

What should a food diary include?
Record what you ate, how much and when. Quantity matters: the same dish can contain twice as many calories in a double portion. Drinks, cooking oil and snacks are easy to overlook, which can make records incomplete. Use specific descriptions such as '2 slices of whole-wheat bread with eggs' instead of just 'lunch'.
Should I use paper or an app?
Paper needs no setup, but nutrient values must be looked up separately. An app can calculate values and daily totals for you. Consistent records help you interpret the result: omitted meals mean the diary shows less than you ate.
How to keep a food diary in Calorie.one
Write a description such as 'oats with milk and a banana', or take a photo. Review the values before saving. Repeat a meal you eat again, or save it as a reusable dish. Log a missed meal on a previous day. The daily overview shows calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat, plus fibre, sugars, salt and saturated fat when known. Missing values remain unknown.
Can I export my food diary?
Yes. Export your meals as CSV or JSON with nutrition sources and ingredient breakdowns, for a spreadsheet or to share with a dietitian if you choose. You can also import meals from a file. Deleting your account removes the food diary from the app.
Frequently asked questions
How long should I keep a food diary?
Choose a duration that suits your purpose and includes typical weekdays and weekends. If a healthcare professional requested the diary, follow their guidance. A single day does not describe your long-term habits.
Are the values exact?
Values depend on food selection, recorded quantities and entry method. A photo cannot show every ingredient or measure its weight. There is no established fixed error percentage. Read about sources and limitations at calorie.one/methodology.
Can I record notes and mood?
Yes, in the separate private journal. It requires your consent because entries about your body and health are health data. Records are encrypted and available only to you through the app.
