Does 1,500 Calories Suit You?
A headline calorie value cannot establish suitability. Energy needs and nutritional requirements vary, and sex or occupation alone is not enough to set an intake.
This menu does not prescribe a deficit or guarantee a weight result. The NICE dietary guidance emphasises individual needs and appropriate support for restrictive approaches.
Use the weight-loss calorie guide to understand intake decisions and the calorie needs calculator for an expenditure estimate. How large the deficit should be is explained in how large should your calorie deficit be. If in doubt, or if you have a condition affecting your diet, consult your doctor or a registered dietitian.
Use the meal descriptions as examples to review, not as a verified complete diet. The losing 5 kg guide explains why a fixed intake does not establish a completion date.
How do the Danish ingredients translate for US shopping?
Skyr is a cultured dairy food, and ymer is a Danish cultured milk product. A US yogurt can differ in protein, sugar and fat, so it is a recipe substitution requiring recalculation. Danish cheese labels such as 30+ refer to fat in dry matter; they do not mean the food contains 30% fat by total weight. Remoulade is a condiment whose ingredients and energy vary by brand.
Use product labels and measured amounts for substitutions. For orientation, 100 g is about 3.5 oz by weight and 250 g about 8.8 oz; milliliters are volume rather than weight. The original FRIDA totals remain historical examples, not verified totals for US replacement products.

What Makes the Plan Easy to Follow?
The following checks help compare ingredients without assuming a guaranteed calorie saving:
| Comparison | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Boiled and fried potatoes | Preparation method and absorbed cooking fat |
| Oil portions | Actual grams rather than an assumed spoon weight |
| Condiments | Product label and amount |
| Dairy, fruit or chocolate snacks | Each ingredient and portion; they are not nutrient-equivalent |
Changing an ingredient changes both the energy and other nutrients. Recalculate the actual quantities rather than assuming that a named swap preserves the meal total or overall nutritional adequacy.
Can You Get the Plan Tailored to Your Own Number?
Calorie.one includes meal planning based on the goals and preferences you enter. Generated meals and shopping lists still need review; the app cannot establish that the chosen calorie target is medically or nutritionally suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1,500 calories a day too little?
It depends on individual needs and circumstances. A 1,500 kcal headline is not enough to decide; do not infer suitability from sex or a sedentary job alone.
How much weight do you lose on 1,500 calories a day?
No particular weight loss can be predicted from this intake alone. Expenditure estimates are uncertain, and scale weight is not identical to body fat.
Can the plan be followed as a vegetarian?
Vegetarian alternatives require a recipe-level recalculation. Replacing fish or meat with beans, lentils or tofu changes energy and nutrients; these foods are not automatically equivalent gram for gram.
Is there a meal plan with fewer calories than 1,500?
The 1,200 kcal example is available with a separate explanation of low-energy diet limitations. Do not use a lower menu as an automatic next step. NICE places low-energy diets within supported care for eligible adults.
